So, this morning we had our first appointment with Dr. Sharon Jaffe at the Center for Reproductive Medicine. We got there and checked in, the receptionist took the medical history I’d filled out the night before and asked us to wait in the lobby for a few minutes. She then escorted us into a small conference room where she explained insurance coverage and co-pays and gave us the phone number for their financial counselor in case we have any further questions. Next, one of Dr. Jaffe’s nurses came into the room and was updating our file on the computer with all of the medical history. She asked MANY questions of both of us. That didn’t take very long.
Then we were escorted to Dr. Jaffe’s office, where she too continued updating my file and asking even more detailed questions than the nurse did. She also explained the tests and exams to take beforehand and the actual process we’ll be going through. After many questions and much explanation, she said, “Ok, let’s do an exam.” LOL! We were not expecting that to happen right away!
I got the speculum treatment for a swabbing for a specimen to send off for tests and I also got a pelvic exam. Yay! That part was SO much fun! NOT. I guess I’d better get used to that part! I also had blood drawn. They do their own lab work for most of the tests. There are a few that have to be sent off, but I will know the important stuff by this afternoon.
Once we hear back about the blood tests this afternoon, then I have to take a pill that will make my period start, since I haven’t had one in 4 months. Once that starts, then I make an appointment for a uterine x-ray to ensure that my uterus and fallopian tubes and all that are “open” and working properly.
In the meantime, both Casey and I have to get a psychological evaluation. Evidently, they want to ensure that we know what we are getting into and that we are mentally and emotionally equipped to handle it. I think we’ll pass that test. J
Once they get the results from the blood tests back, and the results from the psych evaluations, and my records from Dr. Holder, my GYN, then we’ll discuss the treatment route that we’ll take. I am thinking that we’ll be on the right path in a couple of weeks! J
In the meantime, they gave us a lot of information to read and the names of the few cryobanks that they use. We can login to the websites for the cryobanks and start reading up on the many, many donors that there are to choose from. Here are the websites if you want to look too… J
· New England Cryogenic Center - http://www.necryogenic.com/
· Xytex Corp. - http://www.xytex.com/
· Criobiology - http://www.cryobio.com/
· California Cryobank, Inc. - http://www.cryobank.com/
We’re very excited that this is finally happening! We want to keep everyone in the loop as much as possible… I’m trying to find a site where I can post blogs and you guys can go read the blog whenever you want, instead of me sending emails… Any ideas?
